With the average new-vehicle costing nearly $50,000, buying a used model, rather than a brand-new car, truck or SUV, is an option based on sheer necessity for a growing number of consumers. To that end the statisticians at the online marketplace iSeeCars.com analyzed the asking prices of more than 900,000 five-year-old pre-owned models sold during the third and fourth quarters of 2025, referenced against its own data regarding vehicular longevity to come up with a list of what are expected to be the longest-lasting five-year-old rides for the money. The top-rated model in this regard is the 2021 subcompact Honda Fit hatchback with an affordable average list price of $18,445 and an expected lifespan of another 10.9 years. That comes out to an average annual cost of $1,693, which is considerably less than the model-year expense among all five-year-old used cars at an estimated $3,310.

All on the list of 24 longest-lasting used cars for the money are expected to keep running for at least another half decade, with the longevity champs here having an anticipated lifespan of another nine or more years. The compact luxury Lexus IS 350 leads all comers with an average 13.0 years left on the clock.

Of course, no matter which used vehicle make, model, and model year is involved, it still pays to do some due diligence before signing on the proverbial dotted line.

While looking for a model that's racked up the fewest number of miles for its age is important to ensure its longevity, it's wise to take any used model under consideration to a trusted mechanic to ensure that it's in good running order and get some idea of what to expect in terms of expected maintenance and repairs down the road. Since fuel costs are a major aspect of vehicle ownership, be sure to check a given model's estimated mpg ratings via the Environmental Protection Agency's fueleconomy.gov website.
