There's a new most expensive Honda in town: this 2003 NSX-R, which just sold for 934,375 euros (CDN$1.46 million, or US$1.06 million)

The big number can be chalked up to the fact only about 140 copies were ever made

The prior record -- excluding a few new-gen Acura NSX charity auctions -- was of a US$632,000 NSX sale two years ago

It's largely a fool's errand trying to estimate the final selling price of a vehicle at auction. All it takes are two determined and well-heeled bidders yapping at each other (virtually or in-person) to drive a car's price well into the stratosphere. We're not sure if that was the case with this 2003 Honda NSX-R, but, regardless, the action late May 2025 made for compelling theatre. When the dust settled, its new owner had committed to the equivalent of nearly $1.5 million Canadian dollars. To be precise, the auctioneer's hammer crashed down at 934,375 euros, marking a new record price for a Honda-badged vehicle.

For that princely sum, a rare Honda NSX-R was purchased, one of only about 140 examples of the -R built over a three-year span, near the end of the NSX's model run. Fewer than 16,000 kilometers (9,940 miles) have been spun up on the 3.2L V6 engine, a mill which makes 290 horsepower and sends it to the Earth via a six-speed manual transmission.
